Hey Bro…. 12/8/18

Not long ago I was checking out at the grocery store.  When I made it to the checker I was greeted with “How’s it going My Man?”  First of all that is certainly not my salutation of choice, secondly especially not when the offending individual is maybe 18!  This week I was helping another young man navigate the world of worker’s comp and medical case management and he decided I was his “Bro”!

I shared this with the guys at CrossFit and they accused me of being OLD! Which by the way I am not, immature maybe but not old.  (At my age immature is a compliment I think). When I went to college at NMSU, I had just turned 17.  I was in awe of guys who were 21, seems a bit odd at this point but true never-the-less.  What happened to the days when we treated folks older than ourselves with respect?

I guess there is an aspect of this that is relevant to us.  The Bible tells us that God is not a respecter of persons, He loves each and every one of us equally. “If you go against the grain, you get splinters, regardless of which neighborhood you’re from, what your parents taught you, what schools you attended. But if you embrace the way God does things, there are wonderful payoffs, again without regard to where you are from or how you were brought up. God pays no attention to what others say (or what you think) about you. He makes up his own mind.”  Romans‬ ‭2:9-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬    11 For God does not show favoritism. Romans 11:9 NIV

OK, OK I get it.  God looks upon all of us the same.  I still want to scream, “I AM NOT YOUR BRO!”  (in the silent vacuum of my mind.)

And so respectfully I say… be blessed my friends, be very blessed.
